Restylane: A family of fillers
Like its sister products, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne are made from Hyaluronic Acid. When precisely injected under facial tissue in a targeted area, these fillers replace naturally-occurring HA responsible for youthful- and luminous-looking skin.

The unique benefits
These newest additions to the Restylane family are FDA-approved to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. As your skin loses elasticity, the nasolabial folds along the nose and mouth and the marionette lines at the corners of the mouth can look more noticeable.
Refyne and Defyne are made with an advanced technology that allows for unique cross-linking of HA. The gel is formulated in a way that is customized to patients with varying needs.
Differences
Cross-linking determines each product’s level of flexibility and support. The crosslinks are like the knots that hold a net’s strands together. Since Refyne has less crosslinking, it is woven more loosely. Defyne is more tightly-woven due to greater crosslinking.
In turn, the Refyne gel has greater flexibility and moderate support while Defyne is less flexible but has greater support. Refyne softens moderate lines and Defyne lifts deeper wrinkles in patients older than 21.
Get results
FDA approval was reportedly based off of two pivotal studies, which found 79 percent and 77 percent of Refyne and Defyne subjects respectively enjoyed at least a 1-grade improvement in wrinkle severity after six weeks, with Grade 1 for “wrinkle-free” and Grade 5 for “very deep and long wrinkles.” The majority of patients saw a “meaningful improvement” in their wrinkles 12 months after treatment.
Side effects are similar to other Restylane products, including injection site redness, swelling, bruising, lumps, and discomfort for one to two weeks post-treatment. Call for your personalized consultation at Seriously Skin Cosmetic and Laser Medicine.
