Using Botox as a non-surgical wrinkle treatment
Over time, both men and women begin to experience the signs of aging. One of the most noticeable areas is on the face, where reduced collagen and elastin production after the age of 30 leaves loose skin that easily forms fine lines and wrinkles where we least expect them. Thanks to continued advances in esthetics, the providers at Seriously Skin, Cosmetic and Laser Medicine can help patients reverse the signs of aging with non-surgical solutions. Many of our patients who visit us in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, ask about Botox as a wrinkle treatment option.
What is Botox?
Our team describes Botox as a medication used to reduce muscle contractions. It is applied in minimal doses to targeted areas of the face to relax muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. These treatments have proven effective for nearly every type of wrinkle, from crow’s feet around the edges of the eyes and frown lines between the eyebrows to other fine lines throughout the face.
What can I expect from Botox treatments?
Botox injections are done by injecting a very small needle at specific points on the face. The procedure typically takes about 10 minutes, but it can take longer depending on the areas being treated and individual factors. Patients experience localized discomfort during treatment that quickly subsides once it is complete. Many patients choose to return home following their treatment without any need for additional recovery or downtime.
How long does it take for the results of Botox to be seen?
Botox injections do not provide immediate results in the same way face fillers can. Instead, Botox works over the course of the first week and then maintains the changes for several months before reinjections are required. Many of our patients come in regularly for injections to maintain the results and slow down the overall process of aging on the facial skin.
What about face fillers?
Botox is an excellent wrinkle treatment for skin imperfections caused by muscle contractions, making it best for those with crow’s feet, glabellar lines between the eyebrows, and forehead wrinkles and folds. However, there are other options available as well, including dermal fillers. These are facial fillers often formulated with hyaluronic acid that provide same-day results. They are gel-like substances that are injected directly into the wrinkles and folds to smooth the skin for several months. Many of our patients combine both Botox and dermal fillers for optimum results, achieving what is sometimes referred to as a “liquid facelift.” This is a non-surgical approach to mild to moderate signs of aging well before the need for surgical interventions.
