Perfect for pregnant, nursing mothers, or anyone who cannot tolerate chemical peeling or laser treatments. Dermaplaning is a safe alternative and a STAFF FAVORITE at Seriously Skin.
Dermaplaning is a safe manual exfoliation of the epidermis and rids the skin of fine vellus fair (peach fuzz). Essentially dermaplaning is the simple shaving of the epidermis. This procedure is quick, lasting roughly 20-30 minutes. There are no side effects of this procedure. Skin feels baby soft following dermaplaning. Dermaplaning aids in exposing beautiful new skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, aids in lightening age/brown spots, and gives skin a beautiful glow. Our staff absolutely loves dermaplaning….we highly recommend trying it!
Dermaplaning Q & A
Is it effective?
This is a staff favorite for a reason… It leaves skin silky soft with no down time. Make up goes on better, the skin is free from peach fuzz and surface flaking. Dermaplaning removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple and vibrant. Dermaplaning is a non-traumatic method of skin rejuvenation.
How is this treatment performed?
At Seriously Skin, we use sterile surgical blades to perform tis treatment. The blade is held against the skin at a 45-degree angle and stroked along the skin, just like shaving. However, the practitioner is doing the stroking while holding the area of skin taut. We use only SkinCeuticals blades and our staff has been trained to safely perform this procedure.
Will my facial hair grow back thicker?
No. It is physiologically impossible for your vellous hairs to grow back thicker. However, the hair will have a blunt edge after it is cut. The blunt edge does not mean that the hair structure itself has been physiologically altered.
Will I bleed with dermaplaning?
This is not a likely event. However, since this procedure is being performed with a blade, there is a small possibility of small cut occurring. Our staff has been properly trained to do this procedure. We consider it to be completely safe.
What body parts can be treated?
At Seriously Skin we only perform dermaplaning on the face only. We do not dermaplane the nose, eyelids, neck or chest. These areas have thinner skin and there is a greater risk on injury.
How often is this procedure performed?
We recommend dermaplaning every 3-4 weeks.
Can dermaplaning be done with a chemical or enzyme peel?
Yes. Pairing dermaplaning and a facial peel will enhance your results. These peels may be included after the dermaplaning procedure. There is an increased possibility that your skin may peel following a dermaplaning procedure with chemical/enzyme peel following.
What skin types/conditions can be treated?
All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning. Contraindications include: Active acne lesions, raised skin lesions, and an allergy to nickel.
What can I expect following treatment?
There is no downtime associated with this procedure. We recommend wearing sunscreen following this procedure to reduce the incidence of hyperpigmentation.
